Goal
The goal of the Basic Conversation Skills Module is to teach participants how to engage in brief and pleasant
conversations. those that typically occur when people interact with
their acquaintances, neighbors, and coworkers. Participants can use
these skills to:
- Improve their day-to-day social interactions;
- Fulfill their daily needs;
- Enlarge their circle of friends.
Skills Taught in the Module
- Read verbal and nonverbal behaviors that indicate when it is and isn't okay to start a friendly conversation
- Keep the conversation going
- End the conversation pleasantly
- Put it all together to engage in mutually rewarding interactions

Special Considerations
The Module is NOT designed to teach participants how to cope with interactions that are:
(These are the focus of the learning activity, Outcome Problem Solving, used in all skills in all modules). The learning activity, Resource Management Problem Solving, is not conducted during the first skill, and its focus for the remaining skills is on identifying conversational topics (topics are resources for conversations.)
