Overcoming Impairment, Disability and Handicap

This is a presentation by Dr. Liberman at a memorial symposium honoring L. J. West on the occasion of his retirement as Chairman of the UCLA Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Liberman presents an heuristic model of schizophrenia that includes 3 factors—stress, vulnerability, protective factors—and indicates how the modules and their 7 learning activities are intended to add to the client's protective factors and prevent relapse. Finally, Dr. Liberman presents the evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of the modules in preventing relapse.
